You're working in the family practice clinic, and a 22-year-old breast-feeding woman presents with a painful mass in the inferior portion of her left breast. Your examination reveals a fluctuant mass that is tender and warm. You can expect green-tinted breast milk on exam. You tell her which of the following? A. Continue frequent breast feeding and take an antibiotic. B. Stop nursing and let the infection heal. C. We will call the surgeon and see if an excisional biopsy can be performed today; we will also set you up with an oncology appointment. D. We will set you up for a mammogram today. E. We will set you up with a surgeon who will take a small-needle biopsy just to make sure no cancer is present.

:?: if the monther continues to breastfeed isn't there a risk that the child might get an infection. I don't know. As u said the correct answer is A, but I'm confused on why the answer B is wrong?

i strongly agree with dxtxpx this looks like a case of breast abcess... its not a contraindication for breast feeding...so mother can continue feeding the baby. incision and drainage is the best mode of treatment
