hi to all companions of step 2 ck,,,,,i took my exam a few days ago,,,,,,,,,,i had very unexpected experience at last block,,,,,,,i think people dont think about it while selecting an exam center,,,,,,,,,but it happened to me,,,,,,,,,,,i would advise all NOT to select a centre in usa at some smaller city,,,,,,i had to take it in ashewille,,because of prometric centres mistake,,i secured a date in my city witch is a larger city in usa,,but just 10 days ago prometri centre person called and told me that the center is closed on that date although there was no mention on website,,,,,,,just 10 days ago last available date was in end of dec,,witch i couldnt afford,,,so i had to choose any nearby center ,,and my luck brought me to that smaller city center because earliest date available was at that center only,,,,,,,,,,,,it wqas an old building,,,you were offered a key each time if you wanted to use washroom,,,,it was two story building,,,,,,and in building was some center for children i think it was a sort of some educational thing,,,,but all i could understand was that there were so many kids there,,who were running at upper floor,,,,and sounds of their feet were so clear that i could hear that through my ear plugs,,,,,,,,,during my last block peaople at upper floor decided to move furniture,,,,,,,and god,,,,,,,,there started so much noise that i had to go thrice to procter to bring it in his knowledge that he should do something,,,,,,,he was himself talking so loud on phone ,that i had to stop him from talking loudly once during my last block,,,,,,,,,it all waisted my 5 minutes,,and during last 20 questions,,,,nothing was improved so i had to compromise for that,,i dont know what i did during my last block,,but before that i thought i was doping well.........

so guys please note this minor thing which can become a major problem during exam,,but i think it does not happen in bigger cities,,,,,,because many students take exam there and procters themselves know importance of these exams,,,,,,,,,,,

regarding the exam,,,,,,,no block was easy,,like i had in step 1,,,,,,,but 4 were doable,,,,,,,,2 were trough but still doable,,,,,,,last i dont know what happened with that...........

there were majority of qs from respiratory system,,,copd ,pneumonia,,asthma,,,,,,and every topic covered in kaplan about resp,,,,,,,there were many qs from rheumatology, about 8 about different sort of back pains,,,,,,,,,and their management,,,,,,,alcohol withdrawls,,,,,

overall 70% were IM,,15% was paediatrics,10%psychiatry,,rest surgery and gynae,,,most easy qs were from surgery and gyn/obs,,,,,,,,,,there were nearly 8 -10 picture qs,,,,,some were understndable, some were not,,,,,,,,,,3 ecg;s,,,,,,ans mi,,and other pericarditis,,,,,,,,,,,

paeds qs were abour croup and bronchiolitis, and other resp conditions,,,,,,,,,,they were doable but i encountered them in last block,,,,,,,,when only my eyes were in connection with my hands and no cognition was working.............in the end, good luck to all,,,,,,,,,,,

Hey gtd.. I wish you the best of luck. I'm preparing for my ck too. sad

I have to take it on Jan 15th. and i've only done 75% of the Crush book..

Please if you or anyone else could offer an advice. Should I start the UW and use it as a learning tool and refer to the Kaplan books as I go through systems, instead of reading all the books and wasting time not doing questions..

I still have step 1 stuff fresh in my mind. and will use the FA to revise information that's tested on ck.

What do you think?? I'm going through the match this year. that's why I can't afford to move the test date back any further.

Appreciate your advice.

thank you all for your wishes,,,

hi dr looli

three things most important for step 2 ck are kaplan books,UW q bank,,,,,,and crush,,,i prepared for 3 months for this exam,,,,you still hav 1.5 months for that,,,,,i would recommend do one reading from kaplan,,if you have fresh step1 knowledge, you can do ist reading in 15 days plus start uw as early as possible,,,their surgery qs are like real exam qs and rest of subjects are tougher than exam but they prepare you very well,,,,,it takes 25 days to do uw and then again doing wrong qs,,i dint have much time so i made notes of important points over my kaplan books,,,i read those points with my 2nd reading,,,and in last 4 or 5 days i did crush,,,,,crush has very good management points and sequence of managing a patient,,,i also noticed that crush managenemt ressembles uw explanations,,,,,,so you will do good on uw as you have read crush already,,,,,but do give time to kaplan books if you want to get good score,,,,,and dont forget to do nbme forms, there were many qs from those forms,,,,,in real exam.....good luck

Thanks alot gtd :-) That was helpful. I will do a swift read os Kaplan books.

I was wondering if I could copy and paste explanations from UW in case I run out of time and can't renew ( for financial reasons), or is it not possible?

Also, NBME forms are pretty expensive, I'm so grateful for Robin and others who posted the NBME questions they did for step 1. I'm not sure I'm gonna find that available for step 2. i haven't been active on ck forum here, so, I don't know if people share NBME questions as in step 1 or not.

Anyway, I appreciate your advice alot gtd. Wish me luck and I'm sure you will get a stellar score.

Good Luck in your Match.

LooLi
