hi everyone , 1. what is the mechanism of CLAW HAND in ulner nerve injury, ? if it is because of unapposed action of flexor digitorum profunudus muscle ........then medial part of the muscle is also supplied by ulner nerve.....which means that in ulner nerve lesion distil interphalangial joints of 3rd and 4th fingers shouldnt be flexed..............what s the Claw then? 2. how anterior dislocation of shoulder joint caused axilarry nerve injuury........can any one clear the picture? Saad

Hi Saad Klumpke was a French neurologist, married to another French neurologist. She described a T1 injury (possibly birth trauma) which tears on the T1 nerve root. This supplies the ulnar nerve, which supplies the intrinsic muscles of the hand. If it is taken out, then there is unopposed action of the long flexors and extensors of the hand and phalanges. The flexors go to the middle and terminal phalanges, so both IPJ and DIPJ are flexed. The extensors go to the proximal phalanges so the MCPs are extended. The axillary nerve loops around the surgical neck of the humerus, so when the shoulder is dislocated (anteriorly or posteriorly) there is risk of damage to either the nerve or its associated blood vessel. Hope this helps.
