hi everyone 1.Why ulner nerve injury .............gives claw hand...........now if it is due to unapposed action of flexor digitorum profundus ms causing flexion of distil interphalangial joints..............i have also read medall part of flexor digitorum profundus ms. is supplied by ulner nerve too..............so............what is the mechanism of "claw hand" 2. Why does anterior dislocation of the shoulder joint give rise to axilary nerve injury..........can any one clarify the picture for me? Saad

Hi Saad, Only an Injury to Ulnar nerve distal to branch to FDP will result in Clawing- lumbricals produce flexion at the MP joint and ext at proximal IP joint- (like when you hold a news paper). Since this is lost, due to action of FDP, fingers claw. If the lesion of ulnar N is more proximal -i.e above elbow- FDP is also weak and hence no clawing- an apparent paradox here where you have more injury but less visible deformity! Hope that helps. -Papez
