I am sure we have all heard of some people who went unmatched even with 10+ IVs. Does this happen with any particular specialty like IM or it can happen any specialty?
Has anyone heard of people for Peds residency going unmatched with 10+ IVs?

S100: there is no way to predict if anybody of us will match or not. Good luck with your interviews, and let´s wait we all get a position (at least we the members of prep4usmle grin grin)

Apurva - 10 dates is just a sample of what life has to offer you. It's out there and when you least expect it......

Yesterday , My student had an interview. He too has a "10+" in IVs. I told him to brush up his speaking skills. This interview took place in Chicago. His interviewer got back to me and said that while his resume' and scores were fabulous, his English was terrible. He asked me: how can this doctor communicate with patients whose mother tongue is English?
I guess I have to "amp-up" his pronunciation training and work on his presentation strategy.shaking head1 After all that coaching for the interview!

Many hopeful candidates make the mistake of thinking that good scores and resume are all that they need.

It all depends on the way their communication skills are gauged by the interviewer(s)!shaking head

One of the questions this applicant faced time and again, from all three interviewers :

Can you teach me something in the next five minutes?

This is where communication skills are scored or measured.

And unfortunately, communication skills are really important. Patients want to feel like their doctor understands him - I like the story that a PD told me years ago: A new intern from overseas, asked a patient how he was. The patient replied "I'm cool" and the intern got him a blanket.

Exaggeration? Perhaps, but ya'll get my point.

Good luck
