hi misty research positions are 2 types- basic and clinical. basic research- usually post-doc position. have to apply tough to get on visitor visa. but sometimes u can do it for free. clinical- apply in ur local university . but you cant be paid

difficult to impossible on a visitor visa...generally people look for Long term commitment,...but sometimes ya get lucky and you know someone..or there is some really short project available.. rest of the stuff has been quoted by dev...:-)

and believe me, research doesnt seem to pass much current or zap PDs/interviewers, unless the iv is at UNis..(who do research themselves)....but imgs being imgs...most universities dont wanna call us..I thought I was workin on cutting edge science...so far I have been able to barely slice butter with this "cutting edge"...except at this uni interview where I apparently had a lotta beans to spill..(but then, how many UNi Ivs I have...do you think) Not saying that ya should not look for research....only saying that most community places and uni affiliated places want somebody who is clinically strong @ observerships, US-clinical-LORs..externships...etc. (and ofcourse SCORES!!)

LITFL & dev...thx a ton guys!! So i have another q now. I have observership, & i have done it for almost 1 month now (should get an LOR & a good one hopefully)...I have two options...i can continue with observership in some other specialty or i can look in for research position (which i dunno if iw ill get, & even if i get, as LITFL puts it....doesnt help much) So what should I do? Do u think continuing with the observership & securing more LOR's will help me??? plz suggest!!! I am in dire need of help...& u guys are my last hope!!! thx a ton again...all u guys!

continue the observership until u can find something in research. but as LTFL said research needs a long commitment. I have been there for 6months now. but again not every community hospital asks about it unless they are doing research themselves

Do what dev has suggested: it seems to be the best opiton ...unless you have time for a minimum of 5-6 months, finding research that serves your purpose of having it on yr CV and a LOR is gonna be like a wild-goose chase. And anyways, observerships seem to matter more where IMGs are called... Best is, if ya have the $$ and time for about a month or two, get a decent externship under your belt - this is gonna be yr best bet for max output with min input (in terms of time). I dont know much about how and where to find an externship, but I am sure there are people on this forum who have done that and have used it to their advantage. goodluck!
