Thank you very much, BBB. I have more questions for you. How soon will the program give me an answer of a prematch offer? (Normally at once or people need to wait for some days.) I am not sure if the decision can be made just by the PD or by PD and associted PD and some other doctors together. During this period of time, can I contact the program coordinator to ask some information such as if is possible to have a second look? I appreciate your help very much.

Every program is going to be different. Some will make you answer immediately (with the thinking that if you asked, you must be ready to accept), some won't. And yes, if you have been offered the opportunity to come for a second look, and you want to - go back. Call and make the arrangements.

I dont think it would be a good idea to ask for a prematch. You will be offered one if progs do that and if they are interested in you. But if you ask for it, it will be like begging, like being a homeless who is begging for a place to sleep. This might be true but dont let them know that. The interview process is a sort of marketing. You have to sell yourself as a coveted product otherwise you will loose value.

I agree with Wamba....if they are going to offer you a prematch they will do it without you inquiring about it. If they aren't going to offer you one, then no matter what you say or do, they still won't offer it.

And some programs don't offer unless a candidate asks. My previous residency program waited for a candidate to tell us that he/she wanted a prematch from us. Good luck with your decision

agree with that...guess being pro-active but not provocative is the key here! :-)

i have been told so far that the PD will review the interviewe's application within 7 days and decide in a week if prematch is likely to be offered... infact have been told to email them in 7 days if interested in prematch...do not know if this is the case with all programs or not,

Prematches can be demanded at an unspoken level ..it entails pulling off an artistic body language to ask for a prematch without uttering a word...the most effective way to ask for a prematch is - when you are leaving the pds office following the interview , swiftly transfer your weight to stand on your hands..now both your legs are in the air and you are on your hands..now part legs so that they lie at an angle of 180 degree from each other (in other words do a split)...Pd will understand right away that you need a prematch..no word of mouth needed.
