I got prematch offer from IM program and signed contract a week ago.

And now I need to cancel it. I don't have this issue in my contract.

Is it possible theoretically? What consequences may I have?

Did anybody face this problem?

Thank you.

this is generally unadvisable unless u have sm genuine problem for eg visa
not advisable if u intend to pick up an alternate visa

I think you would be in big-big trouble if you cancel a signed contract. They will report your case.

May be i'm wrong though.

Read your contract for the cancellation clause. Be certain that this is what you want to do.....

Never ask for a prematch unless you know that this is what you want to do. It's so not cool!!

I agree. Look over the contract. But I would think that it is binding and any cancellation may have penalties that you may regret. If some problem in your life has come up they may be more understanding, but they still may tell you that you can just start your residency a little later. If you want to cancel to pursue a different pre-match offer then be very careful.

It is too risky, they can screw you.

It's a lot of paperwork to try and screw someone - just remember that program directors do talk to each other - if you are going for another program, hopefully it's miles away physicially.

Thank you guys and especially bbb for all your responses. I very appreciate it.

Yes, I want to cancel contract because I got an offer from another program - program of my dream.

I re-read my contract, it doesn't have any cancellation clause

My question is should I say the truth to the program director and ask him to release me or i have to lie. Actually I don't know what to lie.

BBB is it really uncommon situation or programs deal with such kind of problem from time to time?

Thank you in advance

I can't add anymore than I have already told you. It's rare for my program to offer prematches, so I am not the one to advise you.

What is your head telling you to do. What ever you do, do it quickly so that the PD can offer your spot to another deserving candidate.
