a pt with +PPD is given INH and Vit B-6.he devlops hepatitis. whats hepatitis due to. guys this is given in USMLE practice CD. it said the ans is INH induced hepatitis.but arent we giveing pyridoxine simultaneously!

You don't prescribe B6 with INH to prevent hepatitis but to prevent neurogical toxicities. Hepatotoxicity doesn't have a clear mechanism - the most widely accepted theory is that isoniazid metabolism produces reactive metabolites that bind to and damage cellular macromolecules in the liver.

Agree....Inh causes peripheral neuritis which is prevented by pyridoxine. It cant prevent hepatitis.
