a 3 year old child awakens at night with a fever of 103 ,a severe sore throat ans a barking cough.physical examinations of the child who is drooling,shows a very red throat and inspiratory stridor.optimal managenent wud include?

a..immediate hospitalization for possible intubation

b..immediate inhalation therapy with racemic epinephrine therapy.

c..treatment with oral ampicillin,50 mg

d..suctioning of pharynx and hourly examination of the hypopharynx

e..a throat culture,expectorant and mist therapy.

Give ans with explanations please...

ANSWER IS A: IMMEDIATE HOSPITILIZATION AND INTUBATION
THE CHILD MOST LIKELY TO HAVE EPIGLOTTITIS CAUSING UPPER AIRWAY OBST.
THEN IMPRICAL ABX SHOULD BE STARTED 3RD GENERATION CEPHALOSPRIN OR AMPICILLINE ,INTUBATION DONE UNDER GA IN OPERATING ROOM .
