A young mother becomes concerned when her 24 month old infant daughter developed a mild fever and cried continuously. The infant drooled excessively with difficulty sleeping and eating. The pediatrician, bowing to the mother's requests, performed bacterial cultures of the infant's blood, saliva, urine and stool specimen. The symptoms continued for several days before slowly subsiding Here are the results from lab tests on infant's specimens Blood: negative Saliva: viridians strep, Lactobacillus sp Urine: negative Stool: E coli, Lactobacillus sp, Bacteroides sp, Clostridium sp The bacteriological findings are consistent with: a) possible enteric infection b) hemolytic strep infection c) bacteremia d) respiratory tract infection e) normal flora All of the following are considered normal microbial flora of the colon except: a) Bacteroides sp b) Fusobacterium sp c) Clostridium sp d) Escheria sp e) Vibrio sp
