Bipolar I Disorder requires at least one manic or mixed episode. Bipolar II Disorder requires at least one major depressive episode and one hypomanic episode. Cyclothymia involves hypomania and minor depression.

cyclothymia is a condition where periods of hypomania and depression alternate. it is not frank mania and major depressive disorder, milder variations of these two keep coming almost in cylces.
