a girl is getting ready for her annual athletic copetition. she c/o wheezing and breathlessness during exercise on various occasions. Nonsmoker, no drugs. she has a history of allergic rhinitis. She has been taking benzamycin(benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin cream) for mild acne. Chest exam is unremarkable. What is the most appropriate treatment in this pt?
a)B agonists
b)steroids
c)zafirlukast
d)theopyllin
e)ipratropium

most appropritae would have been cromolyn Na+ as a prophylactic agent! i am suprised not to find tht on the list!

dear ssprk best drugs for preventing excercise induced asthma are the B2 agonists, as you can see its listed in kaplan lecture notes for step 2...

yeah,true, but in pediatric patients, first line are cromolyn,also mentioned in kaplan wink
hmmmmm, well i hope we won't be asked to make a choice between beta-agonists and mast-cell stabilizers as i hv seen lots of pediatric patients as well, on prophylactic beta-agonists!

you are right, but from my experience with nbmes they dont tend to put a very close or picky options in the set of choices... Not like the dudes from UW which can get a little nasty... shaking head

The question is regarding exercise induced asthma...in which it is recomended to give beta agonist prior to exercise...while cromolyn Na is recommended if pt get symptoms frequently like twice in a month or more ..the patient is more concern about her athelatic competition ...so the best choice will be Beta agonist..
