Does anybody know how late one can take exams to be eligible to participate in match 2007/scramble 2007? Is December 2006 ok?
I'm supposed to take Step1, done with step2 and CK. My nbme assessment result is not high enough yet, and since I don't have a stellar step2 score, I don't want to take chances.
Your input will be grately appreciated!

I would take it as quick as possible because it can take up to 2 or 3 months for you to get your results. Having said that, if universities require step 1 scores before they grant you an interview then you will be too late because interview season will have closed. Even if you manage to get your scores in 1 month, I think you will still be too late to participate in the Match..unless you already have some interviews. As for the post-match scramble, you can give it a shot but it's pretty difficult.

I'm assuming that you've already applied to some programs right? If you haven't then you may want to consider taking your time to really prepare for Step 1 so that you can score really well on it, and go for the match next year 07-08. If you are not well prepared for step 1 and rush to take it just to make it for the post-scrambe then you may risk your chances for next year if you don't get anything during the scramble. It's all about the weighing the pro's and con's with the strength of your application.

step 1 & 2 ck score reporting takes only 3 weeks, no more no less. Plus this is not a high volume season (Dec-Jan). I am still to take step 2 ck in Jan. and usually the program will want to see your scores before the ROL submission deadline on Feb 21st.

That mean you can take step 1 even in Jan but don't make it that late, becaue prometric closes during the first 2 weeks of Jan. I'm stuck because I couldn't apply sooner than Nov.

Don't worry, just try to study hard and make the end of Dec. your deadline.

Good Luck to both of us wink

Thanks, guys. I scheduled my Step1 for the end of December because I want to have a higher score. On the other hand I really want to get residency in 2007, just because I'm so tired of doing semi-medical job, I'm tired of my lifestyle. I'm not content at this point of my life.
Cordmd, I got only one on-hold invitation, my step2 score is very low, however, I have good credentials otherwise-LoRs, US experience, GC, good academic performance during medical school years. I hope I get smth this year. Really don't want to wait for one more year.

Hey Rasul...Good Luck. If you've made your decision then go strong and put your best effort into it. You may get tired of studying or feel hopeless sometimes but just keep pushing yourself to succeed. It's better to suffer in the short run to have great success in the long run.
