Dear Applicant:

We have reviewed your application for a PGY-1 residency position in our program. We do not judge your candidacy to be sufficiently competitive to warrant an interview visit at this time.

  #2

Sorry about that.

I wish they were a bit more sensitive

  #3

I received the same e-mail. but what I don't understand is that I didn't apply to their PGY-1 but their' categorical. did you apply to their prelim??

  #4

I applied categorical too.

the email is all about them and how competitive they are. but after all, a rejection is a rejection.

thanks skdoc for your empathetic response.

good luck to all.

Well here's one that sounds so nice, that the rejection wasn't so bad to take:

-----------------------------------------

Congratulations on your fine application. This year in particular we found it extremely difficult to select only a handful of applicants to interview out of the hundreds that applied. We want to thank you for your interest in the XYZ Institute, XY and Z Hospitals; however, we regret that we will be unable to offer you an interview at this time.

Because you have invested considerable time and effort in your application, I would like to tell you about the challenge the committee faced in making the final decisions. We had well over 500 applications for only 18 available resident positions. Each file was reviewed in its entirety by at least one and sometimes as many as five physicians. We did not apply an electronic filter to the files. All of the applicants are incredibly competitive and outstanding, just as you are, however, it was logistically impossible to offer everyone interviews. We were inspired and amazed with the quality of each of the applicants, and we regret that we cannot offer more interviews. Because of the talent and drive of applicants such as you, we are certain the future of department is bright.

With best wishes for your career and our hopes that we will read of your future successes,

It is still a preformed letter that is addressed to everybody. To me, a rejection is a rejection. I dont really care about the arrogance or the beauty of the letter. I know the letter is not specifically addressed to me and more importantly, THEY DONT WANT ME. That's it.

oh, what kiss-asses...sometimes i wish they would just be rude and mean, but they are days when the kiss-ass rejection helps ease my pain and not to mention my ego...
never did i imagine that this process would be so grueling...aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh

Warning to all

Re:cancellation letters

ALL are advised to update their antivirus software and buy the new antibacterial scanning feature..SOme programs are notorious for sending anthrax spores through rejection e-mails ..Amazingly one of the interview e-mails i received was studded with human papilloma virus type 6 .On further investigation I found that PD of that program had developed cervical dysplasia ..He is on regular amiodarone therapy for cervical dysplasia and on methotrexate for atrial fibrillation . .
I deleted that e-mail eventually and sent back lactobacillus in my e-mail .

that was harsh, ngt

but like wamba sez - no point taking it personally, even a sugar coated rejection is a rejection and an interview however rudely worded is still an IV!
i mean who would object to
"You - IV offered - call us to fix date"grin

  #12

hi, I agree that a sweet rejection has the same meaning as a very rude one. though i wish they were more tactful.

thanks all for comments and support.

apurva thansk for best wishes,

ngt

I'm afraid to send my rejection letters out based on what I read here. I'm damned if I do send them (they don't want me) and damned if I don't (why won't they tell me anything).

Help!

BBB and all PC's

Please send the letter. It's better to know where you stand with a program than hold on to false hope and wait! The waiting is hard enough as it is! At least this way, you can take a deep breath, get your ducks in a row, and move on.

BBB thanks for being here and giving us some insight. You are truly appreciated.

Hi BBB: Sorry if my post confuse you. Did not mean that at all.

I believe there is consensus that it is best and very much apreciated to know if you are rejected.

Besides, I am sure your rejection letters are not rude.

thanks again for your input.

ngt.
