is this tested on step 1? because it seems quite detailed. I tried to look it up, but nothing gives a good answer, Methoxyflurane seems to be closest!

I agree with usmle4me-that staging was done with diethyl ether although correct its nolonger useful with modern day agents. Now staging is done with presence or absence of eye lash reflex rhythmic repiration and B.P., heart rate. My guess would be anagent that binds to GABA such as a benzodiazopine with flumazenil on hand or Thiopental

I am not sure whats tested on step1 or not. I just started reading lippincott for pharmacology cuz everyone of the forum stated it to be a must. I didnt even want to read such a big book, anyways its an easy read. The purpose of saying all this is that I got this from lippincott. Please if u guys think some parts should be left out, do let me know, thanks Answer is sodium pentothal Lippincott Pharmacology 2nd ed: Page 110 "In stage II, pt experiences delirium and violent combative behavior. There is rise and irregularity in BP. The RR may be increased. To avoid this stage of anesthesia, a short acting barbiturate, such as sodium pentothal, is given IV before inhalation anesthesia is administered"
