wrong values babe!

FRC is wht remains after normal expiration, which in the given que is 4.45L

Inspiratory capacity is the max. tht one can inspire after normal tidal expiration which is given as 3.55L

TLC = FRC + IC = 4.45 + 3.55 = 8L while in the question it says TLC is 6.5 L [ can't be ]

The question seems to be wrong .Reason goes as below.

Lung volume at the end of expiration = FRC = 4.45 L

IC (inspiratory capacity) = 3.55 L

TLC = FRC + IC = 4.45 + 3.55 = 8L

While the stem question says TLC is 6.5L . How is it possible??

If you correct the Question by saying the Lung volume at the end of normal inspiration = 4.45L ,then calculation goes like this

TLC = 6.5 L

IC = 3.55 L

FRC = TLC - IC = 6.5 - 3.55 =2.95 L

TV = Lung volume at the end of normal inspiration - FRC = 4.45 - 2.95 = 1.5 L

So the answer is A

HuMmm .. the Inspiratory capacity should be Inspiratory Reserve Volume .. !! Sorry for the typoo .. ! hUMm .. Noww .. applying the TLC formula . !! i.e TLC = ERV + RV + IRV + TV Where ERV + RV = FRC and IRV + TV = IC (inspiratory capacity) Therefore TLC = FRC + (IRV + TV) From the question .. we get .. TLC = 6.5 IRV = 3.55 FRC = 4.45 .. as .. At the end of a normal expiration, her lung volume is 4.45 L so now ... TLC = FRC + (IRV + TV) 6.5 = 4.45 + (3.55 + TV) TV = 8 - 6.5 TV = 1.5 L Leo .. Thanks for the Error fixation .. !! !!

Again the question is wrong dear

TLC = FRC + TV + IRV

FRC = 4.45L

TV = 1.5L if assume that it is so

IRV = 3.55L

TLC = 4.45 +1.5+3.55 = 9.5 L ,again it is wrong

I do not know where is the problem in your source dear

The only becomes correct in case You assume that

TLC = 6.5L

IC = 3.55L

TV = 1.5

Volume at the end of normal INSPIRATION = 4.45

Then FRC = TLC - IC = 6.5 - 3.55 =2.95 L

Lung volume at the end of normal inspiration - FRC = TV

4.45 - 2.95 =1.5 L
