A 52 yr man went to his doctor complaining of intermediate but severe headache, sweating, angina, anxiety, and fatigue. Urinalyis revealed high levels of Epi, NE, and their metabolites. MRI reveals 3 cm mass in adrenal medulla. The most likely diagnosis is: a) Cushing's disease b) Zollinger Ellison synd c) pheochromocytoma d) adenocarcinoma of pituitary e) Hashimoto's thyroidits

yeah C is correct This pt has pheochromocytoma, a chromaffin cell tumor in adrenal medulla. Hypersecretion of catecholamines results in HTN, severe H/A, sweating, heart palpitations, angina and anxiety. If pt were given phentolamine, an adrenergic blocker, a marked decrease in BP would be ntoed. A beta adrenergic blocker such as propanolol would be used to reduce tachycardia.
