2.5month old male develops lethargy , somnolence, hypothermia, feeding problems, and persistent jaundice. After several days, he develops a hoarse cry and hypotonic muscles. Tongue is large and protruding and umbilical hernia is noted. Hematologic evaluation shows no abnormalities. Which following abnormalities is most consistent with these findings?

true........d is the correct answer....hypothyroidism(cretinism) in children is characterized by hypothermia,feeding problems,persistent jaundice,umblical hernia,protruding tongue,spasticity,failure to thrive,stunted bone growth,mental retardation........and low circulating levelz of THYROID HORMONES will cause increased TSH levels which will cause thyroid hyperplasia......

how bout C
maternal T4 crossing placenta giving negative feedbak to fetal pituitary and shutting the thyroid off giving rise to congenital hypothyroidism. How bout that guys????

really, and will tht elevated level of T4 prenatally will keep the TSH level supressed post-natally as well! think!
