hi i am an IMG from India, today got the bad news .......my step 1 score is 78/192. Do i have any future in Internal Medicine ?

i was basically targetting the university programs.....please let me know if they will still consider my application

basically interested in a lot of research, got 2 publications and conference presentations as well (im still in final year)

Can a high step 2 score compensate in any manner ?

Can US clinical experience help me ? (Can i manage USCE with these scores ?)

its a black day in my life......i just dont know what to do

please advice, i'll be really thankful

Congratulation. You did it
Please tell if u did UW Q or Q bank and what was ur score?

  #3

just did the Kaplan Q-bank once, couldnt finish the Kaplan notes (strongly recommended) and a few webpath pics and First Aid, just once though during the last 2 days

i need some sincere advice

hey be thankful. many have abandoned medicine and gone on to stuff like nursing and even worse stilll nursing aids because they attempted more than 3x and still failed. you passed FIRST attempt. that is big. a success is a success. oh yes, you stand a good chance of geting in int medicine. of course that willbe helped more if you score higher in step 2, get USCE, get US LOR. SO JUST BUCKLE UP AND GO FOR IT.nod

thank you for the reply

but do u really think even with a couple of months of US clinical expeerience and possiibly LORs, i'll have a chance at university based programs

i was counting a lot on my 2 research papers, in fact im working on 2 more research works

will all this help me in compensating a low step 1 score ?

can a high end step 2 score really help ?

what else can possible help me ? A lot of good programs have cutoff scores like 80 or 82, can i dare apply there if i have a high step 2 ?

genuine advice needed even if that ruins my dreams of a university-based internal med program

JUST GO FOR IT. noone can answer your questions and guarantee you anything. the match is a big gamble just go for it. you will be surprised at waht you get. people say surg is difficult for IMG yet IMG's still get spots. opthal is also impossible yet IMG still get spots. so a low score reduces your chances but it does not totally eliminate you. you will of course apply to community programs as backup. so i say just go for it. be ready for a lot of rejections but at the end of the day, you need only one accecptance.
