Hi, I am currenlty preparing for both MCCEE and USMLE but I can't help thinking about my matching chances and how to improve my CV. Here is where I stand: - Graduated from school with an A+ average. Won numerous honor awards from both school and ministry of education. - I am an MBBS graduate with an overall grade of 73.1% (which is in the top lets say 20% of my class if not the top 15%) - Took BLS and soon hopefully will have the ACLS - Currenlty doing my internship but by the end of my internship I would have worked in (Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, OBGYNE, ER and OtoRhinoLaryngology). Intership is 12 months. I am a hard working Intern with very good evaluations upto now. - Attended numerous number of sympoiums where I have collected a decent number of CME hours in different specialities. - I have done two months of elective during my medical school years in Canada. - Paricipated in a survey/study done on Elderly health care in my city by our community medicine department in 2004. - Currently working on a research which I am almost done with and another one is planned to start around Feb 07 (so basically I will have to 2 researches done by the time I hand in my CV to the matching program). - Whatever I get in both USMLE and MCCEE - Other random and small things that I will add. - Two recommendations by Canadian Drs (which I worked with during my two months in Canada) + Recomendations form Local DRs + Contact Refereces from DRs who have done their postgraduate in Canada, in USA and who are American as well. This, more or less, will be my CV. What do you think about it? Any suggestions? Now my important question is, As far as I know Research is one of the things they look at in a CV of an applicant, are the research supposed to have taken place in north america or are foreign researches accepted as well? I know that most probably NA researches are taken more seriously in matching programs, but what are their attitude towards my foreign researches and surveys? Mind you I am one of the authors in both researches. How will they weigh the research if not about the speciality I want to study? E..g if my research was in Cardiology and I wanted general surgery. Thanks alot.

1. foreign research are better than nothing. If its internationallly renown, great. otherwise you better get american one. 2. submit what you have. if you apply to surgery and you only get card research, it won't hurt submitting it.

whole cv depends a heck of a lot more on your usmle scores and recommendation providers. US recommendations carry more weight than canadian ones unless the canadian recommendation provider called up his good friend whos a pd at the place youre applying to.
