Hello I am surgeon and I want to get a fellowship in vascular surgery. I got a 92/227 step 1 and 99/244 step 2 CK. The next year will take the step 2 cs. I need information about my real possibilities from somebody who live in your professional enviroment. Thanks

HI JPMP73 YOU HAVE GOOD SCORES AND WITH A RESIDENCY IN SURGERY YOU MAY GET A RESIDENCY IN SURGERY IN US , BUT BECOMING A VS YOU FIRST NEED TO COMPLETE YOUR RESIDENCY AND THEN YOU WILL BECOME A FELLOW AT YEAR 6 AND 7. GOOD LUCK

email the vascular surgery programs, rarely you can find a program which doesn't need US surgery residency.

i it's extremely rare, you could say impossible to get vasc surg without doing general surgery residency in US. will you repeat surg residency in US and then go for vasc ?? it's a likely pathway for you with those scores but it's up to you

thanks for all your advices I am concerned too about my non-us general surgery residency. However, actually i am coursing the first of two-years program of vascular surgery in my country (here you can find only TWO positions per-year in all the country).I expect, this aditional training will improve my possibilities. Now , I want to ask you ,how competitive would be my scores in the better of scenaries? I appreciate so much yor responses. JPMP73

surgery is competitive. scores aren't everything. your application would be strong in my opinion and you could get general surgery and then vascular if that's what you want. But to try to go to vasc surg in usa directly isn't going to be easy. Remember that most hospitals think that a non american training is almost nothing. stupid but it's their country.

good luck. That´s the attitude of a surgeon or that´s how it should be.
