Hi, Can u pls let me know whether we get questions regarding gene mapping/cloning and diagnostic applications on the exam. I'm an IMG and I do not have too much prior knowlwdge of it. And it seems to be going over and above my head even though I've tried to.. Also do we get too much details of muscle origins/insertions on the exam? Thanks

you are more likely to get questions related to stuff like missense, nonsense and those cos they have applications with respect to diseases like sickle cell disease. also you will get questions on gene transcription and protein synthesis and basic stuff like that. also there will be questions on rat experiments concerning possiblities of certain diseases givne the parenthood or siblings. generally speaking, if you read the genetic section in kaplan, you will have afairly good amount of information on what is expected. i think that should be enough. i got more advanced questions which i could not answer but i am still happy that i did not spend too long trying to figure out all the gene nonsense!!! do know stuff like start code and a little gene language. it will help you. sorry about teh lengthy reply
