whtz closing volume of the lung??? and wht exactly is max. expiratory pressure, IPP or alveolar..where??? anyway, i'll go with C, as in any kind of obstruction, functional vital capacity decreases!

well ssrpk, i too had same quieries.its a mcq from score95.com the explanation they offered is A.bcoz in small airway obstruction,as contrary to large airway obstruction there is a parodoxical increase in closing lung volume. i really dont know what the hell is closing lung volume mean.

well, maybe its residual volume, but anyway one thing is for sure, tht FVC gets reduced, it can't be even normal in obstruction of any kind, even in restrictve diseases!

ssrpk, from what i know, FVC is fairly equal to the normal individual's.. it's FVC in 1 second that is grossly decreased. please corrcet me if I'm wrong

Increase in the Lung closing volume is well known change in Small airway disease Best of luck

yeah its true tht FEV1 is more important than FVC as it decreases earlier than FVC which may be normal! whtz more important is ratio [FEV1/FVC] answer is definitely A [closing volume is residual volume]

as i said, at the initial stages of obstructive lung disease, or say tht diseases has'nt progresed tht much, the first value to go down will be FEV1 and the FEV25%-75% [midmaximal flow rate], while the FVC overall may remain normal, tht's why FEV1/FVC ratio is much more informative! butofcourse as the dieases progreses, FVC will reduce!
