a term neonate was born after difficult delevery.his apgar score is 3 at 1 minute.arterial blood was drawn for analysis which revealed
PO2 of 10 mmhg,PCO2 of 27 mmhg,and Ph of 7.09.choose the best interpretation of these results.

a. within normal limits.
b.decreased Ph -acidosis
c.decreased pco2-hyperventilating.
d.decreased po2-resp.failure

I read somewhere I newborn has These value lower than infant.

well at 1 minute apgar score shud be abv 7, so value of 3 is definitely not normal , which is very well reflected by the ABG's.

besides, all of the rest but "a" are consistent with the ABG's!

well that is really wierd, i think the values are too low, also Apgar, so i'm going with D

in neonate
PO2 = 8-24 mm hg
PCO2 = 27-40 mm hg
pH = 7.11 - 7.36
