Hi all, I am new to this forum, I am posting this for my wife, she finished her Medical degree in Moscow Russia and now is preparing for her USMLE step 1. Can you all put in your 50 cents and direct her in the right way. Where does she needs to start, what books/websites can she refer? and so on. Thank you

Hi welcome. I guess you have to check this forum out first. Read other people's threads and find out what are suitable for your wife. Nobody can just simply tell you, read this and that, or do this first. You will find lots of information there, then make your own study plan. Where does she need to start? Read other people's exam experiences and journals first, then if she has any Qs, put on the surpport forum, where you can find similar Qs and As. This is my 50 cents worth suggestion.

Hello Shivaries, How to start preparation for usmle ? That would be a long answer , for sure you did a first step right, to join this great forum ,where you can find a lots of information, help and support . I'm on the beggining of my preparation, but what I could advise get the book First Aid for usmle 1 ( in the last chapter are recommended books and web links ) , very popular are Kaplan notes , that are important books to beggin with . Along with the preparation your wife will find what she needs. Neither to say , of course it all depends on her medical knowlidge , some people need more , some less time and I don't know her medical background..... It seems , she got already the biggest help, the support of her husband and this is very important ! The understanding and support of loving person is most precious thing in this bumpy journey ! Hope I could help , and good luck !

hello and welcome....i understand ur wifes worries very much,i was also like this in the beginning...no one to guide no one to tell what things u learn and from where. ur first step is indeed the right one- to enter this forum. i have not taken my exam yet but still from my experience what i would suggest is get Kaplan Lecture notes latest edition with dvds, hear them and read them try to finish one read of all subjects as early as possible then start doing Qs regularly and do one more reading.the popular Q sources are Kaplan Q book and Q bank but there are so many others as well. u can find them all in this forum. For Pathology most of them say Kaplan is not enough, so u can use either BRS or Goljan with audios. other study sources are also there which r, u know very good for a perfect score so make ur choice soon and stick to few books. read same books again and again is they say the key. nw u set a target date and a target score, make a timetable according to ur reading skills, time available for study and ur own medical background and stick to it whatever happens. u can spend some time reading experiences of veterans here, then prep journals which will definitely inspire u. then i would suggest some threads which i found very helpful, like askdoc, tolito, shilakh,sarika,P53 and so on.... all the best for ur great Voyage.......
