I asked in an older post the differences in HUS, ITP, TTP, DIC, in terms of lab values.. didn't get a clear answer.

So, this is what I came up this far:

Plt: dec?/dec/dec/dec
Bleeding time: prolonged/prolonged/prolonged/prolonged
PT: normal/normal/normal/prolonged
APTT: normal/normal/normal/prolonged

Coombs: -/+/-/-
Periferal blood smear: schistocytes?/megakariocytes/schistocytes/schistocytes

other: possible E-Coli infection history in HUS, septicemia stuff in DIC, young woman in ITP, fibrin splits in TTP and DIC
am I right? what else could you add to the things I wrote above?

ok... not so perfect after all!

i just found out that in TTP the fibrin split products aren't elevated and that the major thing that differentiates the two is that in TTP there is an endothelial destruction that leads to mental status changes, unlike HUS.. also, a thing that i didn't know was that TTP, too, goes with renal insuficiency..

yes perfect , another approach is

ITP and TTp are both disorders of primary hemostasis (thrombocytopenia) so are characterised by prolonged bleeding time and normal APTT and PT.also are both characterised by bleeding from small vessels resulting in petechial hemorrhages.

The differences between them are ITP is autoimmune; in children following a viral infection, self limited and in adults is chronic.; being autoimune we have antiplatelet antibodies which leads to distruction of the platelets (this will give increase megakaryocytes in bone marrow).

TTP is characterised by microtrombi in small vessels, microangiopathic hemolitic anemia leading to fragmentation of red cells, schistocytes and helmet cells. the first vessels affected are brain vessels and renal vessels leading to neurologic and renal problems.
