hi all senior members, i m relatively new to this forum, an img from india recently immigrated to usa, with usmle step 1 score of 96. i just want to know what is the basic difference in medical education between india and usa. like m.b.b.s equivalent to what in usa, m.d. equiivalent to what and d.m., equivalent to what in usa. are we the imgs from india are much older then the us citizens while entering into residency. and what are our chances of doing superspecialization here. these all i m asking, because currently i m 28 yrs old and doing my m.d. first year medicine in india, i have taken 6 months break, so that if i m not suited for the u.s. systes i can go back and continue with my m.d. in india. am i too old for residency in us. ur humble suggestions required, please guide me what should i do as i m really very much confused. thanks

Hi Warrior, All the degrees you have mentioned like MD, DM, or any other specialization degree. They do not have any value in US system. Eventually everyone has to write usmle steps and get residency and pass the board exams. I heard that some program may give you 6 months time credit towards your residency time. But i personally don't know anyone who can confirm this report. As far as your age is concerned that is not a problem. Us graduates are younger than IMG and they have to be because usually they don't have break in their education.
