hello evryone, and catmd and digidoc,

i just wanted to know as mentioned at several posts is it right to tell mother enuresis will undergo natural healing and to be tender with out even examining the baby/child.

i think the better option would be to tell the mother that although the chances of its being related to age/immaturity are more, but i would like to examine the child for other medical disorders /diseases which can be causing childs symptoms.

check UW for enuresis, and yes you should definitely persuade mother to bring the baby for examination

Besides that assure mother that it just might be an isolated symptom that might disappear with time. Also counsel mother on not losing patience....trying different alarm systems...also ask if they would like printed information regarding enuresis. You must remember this is a harrowing experience for the parents and they need all the support they can get. Besides since there is no examination to be done there is plenty of time to counsel the Parent....do your best job at the counseling....

dont we have to rule out secondary causes of enuresis before giving advice.

further could u please tell me about the alarm systems, what are they and how to advice.

We have two different methods for alarming:

1.Set an alarm on usual clocks every 2-3 hour to wake up the kid to go to the bathroom.

2.Special apparatus that connected to underwear, with the first drop of urine cause an alarm, wake up him>>>her to finish the job in toilet.

Yes you do have to rule out the 2dary causes thats why you write up the investigations and ask the child be brought in...but sometimes to allay the fears of the parents you can give them the not so bad diagnosis first and then just mention in passing what else could be....its not false assurance just pre-adjudicated advice.....like if you ahve to tell a man with a recent MI about the cause for blood in the stool....you can tell him first infection, then injury then blood disorders and then mention the cancer as a possibility.....you are not hiding anything from him but just giving him information in a acceptable manner....thats my view maybe someone wants to chime in?
