I am not sure abt the deffered admission but in my case, I had travelled to US for one course, at the end of which I took another one and the student visa was extended by the International office person who dealt my case. Infact she said that she can extend my visa thru sevis as long i remain enrolled in that university and issue me a new I-20 and this way I am legal too. Only problem is that when u wanna travel outside US and wanna re-enter, you'll need a fresh visa stamped in ur passport.

Extending the visa thru sevis takes 2-3 days but less than a week but its better to stay in touch with the international offiice because even if u were studying in the MPH course, u need to be accesible to the international office. Make sure they have ur current phone number and address incase they neede to contact you.

Hope it helps,

regards

You need a visa only for entering the country. Once you are in, the most important is your I-20. If you check you I-94, it should say D/S (=during study), i.e., valid as long as you are a full-time student. If you need longer time to finish your study, the International Office in your University should be able to extend your I-20.
You need a valid visa only if you re-enter the US from other countries, except Canada and Mexico.
