Hello,

I have a question about entering the residency program. I got my MD. from China in 1992. My major is preventive medicine. I worked in the Department of Preventive Medicine in our University before I came here. So I did not have any clinical experiences. I think I am eligible for takeing the USMLEs. My question is if I pass the USMLEs, do you think I have a chance to be matched into any residency program. Because I noticed most programs require clinical experiences. If you think I could apply for the residency programs, which specialties do you think I could apply. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Daxia

you may apply for FM, psychiatry and Peds and IM. and as far as I am concerned your chances would be FM>IM>Psych and Peds, based on your previous experience. I think you don't need visa, that helps you a lot.

For USCE, firstly start with some volunteer job, peeple will know you and you will be moe involved.

By the way, if you have time, try to eean MPH or PhD while you are preparing for USMLEs. clear all three steps before applying.

All of this will increase your chances to get a residency slot and ignore your graduation year.

This is a Long Run and you should have enough enthusiasm to arrive at the End, otherwise you have lost your time and money.

Good Luck

Hello.

in Doc Vader's opinion, the answer to your first questions is yes, YOU CAN MATCH.
the rest of your questions can only be speculated upon. There are sooo many variables that take part in the match game, sometimes scores are a factor, sometimes US clinical experience, but the way I see it is this match thing its just like life, you never know when something is gonna happen. You might have great scores and not match, you may have aful scores and match. so as you can see your question resembles the old phrase "what was first the chiken or the egg"? no one knows yet.

So now you see why no one answered your question. because they don not have a certain answer. I guess it all depends on how stars are lined up in the sky.

My final suggestions, start by taking the USMLE step 1 2 ck and 2 cs. Then you can start worrying about residency positions.

I hope it helps.
