Hi there: If I take my CK in the last week of December, I'll get my results in third week of January so will I be able to participate in the match, what is the deadline?

i took mine in jan 17 last time and participited in the match. technically u can participate. i had 5 ivs last year and did not match. 2 places did not rank me as they scrambled. i scrambled and got nothing. i feel if i took it in dec i may have matched. however u have to pass it so take the NBME before and use that to make ur decision.u need ur CK score (esp if u r a IMG) for 2 things: to get ivs and to get ranked.if ur step 1 is 90 or esp 99 then there is little doubt how u will do on CK so u will do well.from my caculations technically the deadlone was when i took it. (usmle is closed for the 1st 2 weeks of jan.) however it is possible some progs make their ROL before the deadline. if u get ur score while ivs r still going on u should be fine. only thing is u will have less interviews. u probably have to apply to more progs and maybe call progs to tell them when u plan on takin it and call them when u do.whatever u do, make sure u pass it. if u fail it, u will be out of the match and it will hurt u in the scramble and next time.

Thank you very much sga430 for your reply.... What will hurt? failing in step 2CK (that I know for sure as they want you to pass almost all steps in first attempt usually)...... But does "not getting matched this year" also hurt? I mean will it effect my status next year? Thanks

well not being matched may hurt if u hit the 5 year mark in years after graduation. also i got rejected at 1 or 2 of the places i got invites last time. but it depends on what u do with the year u lost. remember the year u lose gives u about 8-10 months b4 the next season to do the following:get uscedo researchget US LoRsdo step 3i did get usce in the year i lost. did not get around to doing step 3. this year i got about 30 interviews. i doubt i would have got so many last year without USCE. my goal is to get the best possible residency in the best possible location to justify losing the year. in a way i think it worked out. last year i may have matched to a crappy program in a crappy location. instead i got usce in south beach florida and beverly hills. i can not complain. i also got some great iv locations and will get u visit friends and family along the way. losing a year is not the worst thing in the world.

Thank you very much sga430; I won't ask anything that is a secret! Thanks for your help...... Can I ask you one question though? Do you know some IMG friendly programs in Illinois, Michigan, Connecticut, Texas and NY states? I got a list from fmgamerica.com; are they real? Thanks and BOL.

they r outdated but i use it as well. the list on residentcafe looks decent but will cost u. for next year i will make a list and perhaps sell at a fraction of the cost.
