original 5' ACT-GAT-TGC-GTT 3'
sequence is mutated by insertion of single nucleotide A in 2 codon,
becomes 5' ACT-GAA-TTG-CGT 3'
Which of the following consequence of this mutation?

a.althered cell cycle checkpoint
b.decrease the rate of transcription
c.protein trucation
d.single AA substitution

anyone..please!

well, i just read the mutations again and still couldn't figure it. anyone?

i was guessing c, but the result showed i did poorly in biochem....so.....disapprovaldisapproval

  #4

It is C- frameshift mutation which will change the protein synthesized and the new protein will be truncated because has different AA.

  #5

frameshift mutation = insertion of a nucleotide = usually results in loss of fn / truncated protien / altered protein synth

i think it is an incompl chioces suggested in the Q , please can anyone confirm this ans

  #6

i was under the impression that any nucleotide insertion in the 3rd position of codon wont have any significant impact on the protein transcription.....more like a silent mutation. with the given choices would B be a possible option.
any thoughts people??

C
frameshift mutation causes protien truncation

GAT is aspartate
GAA is glutamic acid,
So all the amino acids are affected down the line..Hence its a frameshift mutation n will cause protein truncation

It is C..
completely different protein althogh the second aa is the same the last 2 are different.. so it will cause protein truncation...
i think so
