Hi everyone. I am from Pakistan, have cleared step 1 with 89 in first attempt. Studying for step 2.

Just wondering if I would be able to do an observership on a visit (B-1) visa or do I need a student visa sponsored for that. I know ppl do electives on visit visa but is it legal to do a 4-8 weeks observership on a visit visa or not ??

Should I write observerships in my purpose of visit section in the visa form because I havent found any hospital yet but am just thinking abt it ??

Thanks for ur replies.

hi!
Many places offer observership to IMG's on B1/B2 visa. It's not illegal at all. A very few places ask to take up J1 visa like Mount sinai medical school, NY. few medical schools like UTsouth western offer electives on F1 visa only!!
So it depends where you apply, but surely you can do an observership on B1/B2!nod

I did two observerships so far, and I used my B1/B2 visa with no trouble at all. Good luck

One of my friends was sent back and not allowed to enter because she was told observerships are allowed only on J1....she told the immigration officer that she is going for an observership...i had no idea that this wasnt allowed...i thought you had to be as honest as you could at the border.
