The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a standardized, multiple-choice examination designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, and writing skills in addition to the examinee's knowledge of science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine. Scores are reported in each of the following areas: Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, Writing Sample, and Biological Sciences. Medical college admission committees consider MCAT scores as part of their admission decision process. Almost all U.S. medical schools require applicants to submit MCAT scores during the application process. Many schools do not accept MCAT scores if taken more than three years ago. Applicants should refer to the Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR™) to determine specific MCAT requirements. The MSAR may be reviewed at many premedical advising offices or purchased from the AAMC Publications Web site. Step 1 assesses whether medical school students or graduates understand and can apply important concepts of the sciences basic to the practice of medicine. Step 2 assesses whether medical school students or graduates can apply medical knowledge, skills and understanding of clinical science essential for provision of patient care under supervision. Step 3 assesses whether medical school graduates can apply medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine. Application Materials are available for Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 from your registration entity. Test Accommodations are provided for examinees with disabilities who are covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Bulletin of Information includes information on all aspects of USMLE, such as eligibility requirements, scheduling test dates, testing, and score reporting. GOOD LUCK
