Hi Waseem84, You are right about the imgo requirements and the requirements by the programs. They say opposite to each other but still they are not going to effect you as you are a fresh graduate. I have general question. what happen if you are a older graduate? I mean why programs don't want to take older graduates? If you are older graduate and out of practice Please put in your thoughts.

They are making me confused. Like I don't know if I should go for MCC QE1 and then apply to IMG ontario, or should I just apply to the programs without IMGO assessment. The problem is that they are saying serious consideration will be given to those who have been assessed by IMG Ontario this is v confusing

IMGO assessment is not for fresh graduates. IMGO assessment is mainly for older graduates. That,s why programs are not asking you to take mccqe 1. Preferences will be given to the following applicants for interviews: Medical students or graduates who have been assessed by IMG-Ontario and can provide the CE-1 score in Family Medicine or other Canadian provincial IMG assessment programs, and/or; Applicants with full time clinical experience (clerkship or residency or independent practice, except observaship) within the past 3 years, and/or; Applicants who have training experience in Family Medicine or broad based clinical practice experience So I think that you have to have any of these options to be eligible.

Hi, I am not eligible for most of the programs, so I am applying only in ontario for family medicine.

Dear Jase & waseem84: I also applied for residency this year although have very minimal chances of getting one. I wanted to ask about LOR. They want them to be submitted by the referees themselves directly from their address; it's not possible as I am an old graduate and don't have any contacts there now...... Can you please advise about that? Thanks

Oh yes sorry waseem84, you already mentioned that. Jase, Can I ask you about that. I also want all IMGs who are applying for Canadian Residency Match this year to share your details and experiences here at this thread.... I am an old graduate (2000), applying for Psychiatry/Family Medicine with only MCCEE in hand.....Will take QE1 in April 2007... Take care and wish you all best of luck!

Hi, You don't have to mail the lor 's directly from your contacts. It is mentioned on the carms website, that if you already have a lor from your contact then you just print out the coversheet and send it yourself. Quote from the carms is posted below: International Medical Graduates Ideally, your reference letters should be written by people who have worked with you in a clinical setting in North America; however, CaRMS will accept any reference letter you can provide. Review the program descriptions in the Program Directory of the programs to which you are applying for any further instructions about reference letters or any preferences on who should and should not write a reference letter for you. As the second iteration programs are not published until late in the cycle, you will only have a short period of time to submit any additional documents that may have been requested from you. It may not be possible for you to adhere to the requirements of each program in the letters of reference written on your behalf but do your best. Have your referee review Guidelines to Referees for suggestions on the content of the letter. Create a specific coversheet in the Applicant Webstation (AWS) for each letter; print out the cover sheet and give it to your letter-writer; have the letter-writer send the letter and its coversheet to CaRMS. For More details see the Applicant Webstation Help Manual. If you already have the letter in your possession, make a cover sheet for it, and send the letter and its coversheet to CaRMS. If a letter of reference is in a language other than English and French have the letter translated and send the translation to CaRMS.
