Hi to all:
I am almost new to this forum.
I have a question regarding psychiatry residency. I have only step 1 score in hand (83); will have step 2CS score on December 6 (probably) and have my CK in late December. Can someone advise me to apply NOW for residency although I know its already late for this year.......
I have more than 6 months of psychiatry residency experience.
I have one good LOR from a psychiatrist and 2 from research (have 11/2 years of experience as research analyst).
please please I need urgent and sincere advise!
Thanks

well you can still apply because closing date for most residencies is not untill dec 1st or later and you will be ecfmg certified before the match.however your chances of interviews are bit lees but you never know.any way good luck

i was in the same boat last time.  i took mine in jan 17 and didnt match with 5 interviews. 2 of those progs were in the scramble so i was unranked.i think by the latest take it this year.  make sure u will pass it though, take the NBME and roll the dice accordingly.remember ur score serves 2 purposes: to get ivs and to match.  u may not get as many ivs but get ur score in time to match. if u have 2 or less ivs consider dropping out and getting a better score and go for the scramble and next year. keep ur mind open to this.

btw i did not have much usce last season. i got it now. so ur situation may be different from mine. apply wide and see how many ivs u get.  my guess is u have shot at more than 5.

Thanks drkantham and sga430 for your sincere advise.

I have one more question; does it matter if you don't get matched this year and re-apply next year???????

one more question: if I don't apply for match, can I apply for postmatch? Or the applicants automatically go for postmatch if they don't get matched!

Thanks and BOL to all....
