Hi to all:
I am almost new to this forum.
I have a question regarding psychiatry residency. I have only step 1 score in hand (83); will have step 2CS score on December 6 (probably) and have my CK in late December. Can someone advise me to apply NOW for residency although I know its already late for this year.......
I have more than 6 months of psychiatry residency experience.
I have one good LOR from a psychiatrist and 2 from research (have 11/2 years of experience as research analyst).
please please I need urgent and sincere advise!
Thanks

Hi there:
If I take my CK in the last week of December, I'll get my results in third week of January so will I be able to participate in the match, what is the deadline?

don't cut it so short. Rather wait til next year.

Deadline for a couple of psych places was actually 11/01......

I've seen earlier ones too.

don't cut it so short, because you still ahve to get the certification, and that could take a while. it did for me, at least.

I don't want to discourage you, but keep your studying schedule, and then do some volunteer stuff to gain experience. They love that.

hey newpsychiatrist

well re CS ECFMG says that one has to appear before 31st december to be able to participate in the match so no worrires....

but one thing, you always give me panic attacks with your URGENT messages so be a good psychiatrist grin

tk care and GL.....

sorry i was so panicked that i took it as CS.....

WHAT is your CS status neways....

Well if you are done with step1 and step2 CS then i would suggest to apply to programs whose deadlines haven't passed as yet,

rank order lists are generally made by programs in month of february and you would have your CK results by then...

but it would always be difficult to compete with candidates with all results in their hands but if i were you i would always give a try as people have got interviews with one score only in the past and if you get through interviews very well then you would stand a chance....

so its worth giving a try and keep postmatch option in mind.....

all I can tell is my own experience which is that I've heard the same rumors that, if you take the last exam before Dec 31st, you still have some chances in the Match or, at least in the Scramble. So, with Step 1 and Step 2CK already passed, no visa issues, USCE, and the required USLORs, I took Step 2CS on Dec 29th in Houston. And I did pass it, only I was unable to secure any residency spot lst year; the results came way too late and the certification reached me one day after the Scramble. But this was my own experience; I don't regret it and I don't advice anyone to repeat it or not do it.

Thanks Spebeeto, gd11 and delusion for your prompt and sincere advise.

delusion; everything seems URGENT to me now.....But you can see how non-urgent I am, by not applying anywhere until November (hahahah).....

Anyways I am only going to apply in few states where I can easily go for an interview.....I actually have many issues at this point but I know everyone has problems and it's not good to talk about them always......

I also know my chances of getting residency are only 1% or even below but there is no harm in giving it a try.

Thanks again and BOL to you all!
