Thanks guys!!! About your questions meghaw, I think you would be OK with the kaplan books. I agree they are not the greatest, nor the most complete... but they are the best thing around, as far as I know. Doing lots of questions will help fill in the gaps. For questions banks, I used UW and I felt it was good enough. That considering that I only did half of it . So, to sum up... read kaplan notes they are fine, and do as many questions as you can (that's the only thing I do different if I could change time... finish UW), about the DVDs I didn't use them... but if you already have them, I guess it won't hurt watching them. GL with your S1 results!!!

Hi Xavecor I have few doubts,if you can pls guide me on them. IS 4 months of prep sufficient fro step-2, I passed out 3 years back? And how many times we have to do Kaplan Books? And after how many reads of kaplan should we start attempting UW? And if I give S2ck in May and then try giving CS in July-mid,will it be in time for getting calls from PD's?keeping in mind that if I missed scoring in step-2cs the first time.I scored in low 80's in S1,so S2 is my main hope right now. Since you passed through it if you can please guide me regarding this,I will be grateful. Thanks in advance and Good Luck with the interviews!!!

4 months is a good time frame for preparation. I would say start doing questions after your first reading of the books, in that way in your second and final reading you know where you have to focus more (or perhaps only re-read your weak areas). In contrast to S1, this exam is more about reasoning the patient presented in the question rather than memorizing an enzymatic pathway, or analyzing physiologic curves, and stuff. So, don't focus much on memorizing the books but more on working out questions, like you do everyday during rounds... what's the next test or diagnosis for this patient? My point will become more clear as you do the practice questions. About Derm, I read kaplan... so I can't really give any opinion in other sources, but I guess FA is okay as suggested by arlete, also review the pictures from the end of that book... they are high-yield; that I can give an opinion on . Mann81... timing is key for interviews!!! In fact the more complete your application is at submission, the more interviews you will get. And that's a fact I learned the hard way... by own experience . When I called some programs, I learned that my application was on hold... since I am not certified yet!!! Still waiting for CS results. Moral of the story is competition for interviews is frantic with many, many applicants with all their exams ready, and what is worst PDs don't what to take chances with incomplete applicants (at least in surgery, to which I'm applying to). Also keep in mind a recent ECFMG communication that stated that applicants going for the 2008 match should have taken all their exams by august 2007 (check ECFMG webpage on CS News & Announcements), so plan your exams accordingly.
