How do you think about this program (Jacobi medical center), is written University based? So good chance for research or fellowship? If anybody has any info about IV there, I would be grateful to have the feedback

It's main teaching hospital of Albert Einstein. Of course it's an university program. Fellowship chances r everywhere, as it's an AMG program. As for research, not sure. But if research is only a means for u to pursue fellowship, good news is u dont need to do much research to get fellowship there.

Actually there are quite a few IMGs in the program... the interview process is laid back... starts with a speech from the the chair and PD... during that time they answer the many questions you may have about the program...next is the residents report (2nd and 3rd year) - they encourage participation from applicants, then lunch... this is a time to mingle and question the residents - they encourage it! after this interviews start - half the group goes on tour and half interview... 1 interviewer for about 30 minutes... this is your opportunity to shine... they will start with questions from your application packet but what they really want is for you to give them insight about yourself and why you will be asset there... what to expect on interview day is explained on their website... good luck!

Thank you very much mph and cocacola for your input. I could not find any info in their website for IV process as their web site seems not well designed or I am not good to find it. However they do have Medical Scientist pathways that is why I assumed a potenitally strong research background maybe in relation to Einstein college. Are they friendly in IV? and which point do they ask about, your clinic background or research? No medical case right?

I believe Montefiore is the more "university program" with fellowships, (>AMG) etc... Jacobi (>IMG) is across the medical school, it was the most important hospital in the past, but it is an important teaching hospital of AECOM, it has just 1 or 2 fellowships....but good opportunities of research/fellowship placement.

Yes, they offer prematch...you can check on nrmp (Directory) how many positions programs sent to the match last year...unless they are changing them on this day... For example El Paso sent just 1 position to the match... Jacobi sent 14 for categorical...

The good thing about Jacobi is u dont need to compete with those outstanding AMG in Montefiere to get LOR, despite they share a large portion of same faculties, and u have freedom to rotate away to big guns while Montefiere generally doesnt. Also, in Jacobi, u face a more diverse of pathology. Montefiere mostly serves as a tertiary center, and bread/butter is less met there.

Medstar, first, which one u like more? I remember u used to bash UPMC a lot, and we chatted long about this. I would go for UPMC, bcz of the name. One of the professor in HU told me," Americans take residency as an education resume, so its name will attach u throughout life. A big name will open more and better job possibilities even many years afterwards." UPMC definitely is more renowned than AECOM. But for clinical training, I would argue that most community programs are better than university programs, as university have too strong back-up and consultation system.

Thank you very much mph, But I have to decide very soon between these two. I would like to ask what you would do if at AECOM they accept you in medical scientist pathway? 2nd: the NY is going to be much nicer than Pitt, right? 3rd: I have been involved in basic research in which AECOM is much known throughout the world while now I am impressed by finding that UPMC is more renowned. So UPMC has a bigger name??? Your idea would be appreciated.
