In alpha thalassemia (2 gene del), there should be decreased HbA2 and HbF (Goljan, rapid), but in kaplan notes (05, p176) , it says normal. What do you think?

it is normal because hba2 and hbf both need alpha and they are formed when betha is defective.on the other hand you still have enough alpha not to let tetrameres of betha (hbh) formed .so you dont have hbh or increase in hba2 and hbf.
