step1 score is just mid 80s..
is it possible to match in 2008 match(next year) with such mediocre score.?
IMG graduated 6 yrs ago.
ii'm realy in dilemma whether to pursue USMLE step2 or not SEEING HIGH COMPETITION THIS YEAR WITH MANY WITH DOUBLE 99..

Hi USMLE GLADIATOR
ur name and signature reflects you should not give up easily..
well scores are one very important part of your application but there are other aspects such as previous experience, research and publications, LOR's etc.
you are still to take step2 and you can aim for higher score in addition to your decent step1 score...

hey dr chand and USMLE gladiator, there is no threshold score for getting into a residency, step 1 score is just one of the many criteria you will be judged with, so work hard on 2CK , CS,observerships,etc. In short, strengthen the rest of your application so much that ur step1 is overlooked ( hard work needed!!!).
In case u understand URDU/HINDI, here is a slight variation from Iqbal, the famous poet:
step 1 se aage jahaan aur bhi hain
abhi residency ke imtihaan aur bhi hain

well i wud advice you to think more on the lines of family practise and peds.but if u get usce then even internal medicine is possible.usce is one major major factor.

i am in the same positiong as u guys ... 80 in step1 on second attempt and im taking 2nd attempt ck in nov ... i guess there is some place for ppl like us ...as Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghaalib said in one of his ghazals ...
