I have been dreaming of writing about my experience for quite some time!!!!! Here is my story: I took step 1 twice (2003 and 2004) and failed. After that, I decided to take step 2 (2005) and I passed (score 84). Took step 2 CS and passed (2005). This year I decided to take step 1 again... Originally, I was scheduled to take my exam on September 5th, but one week before the exam I took NBME I and II and failed badly, scoring around 320. I was totally devastated... Obviously, I postponed my exam for one month. Well, during this last "studying month" I decided to study using USMLEWORLD only. I started scoring 45% and in the end was scoring from 55 to 65%. I was doing kaplan q bank before, scoring around 68%, so I was really surprised that my NBME was so low... But of all my problems, the main thing is that I was a nervous break, I was not sleeping more than 4 hours per night, I was having palpitations etc... Besides that, I work full time (sometimes 10 hours/day) as a researcher in a cancer center, and I was able to take only one week off (the week before the exam) to study full time. Anyway, without doing more of NBME or the usmle CD I decided to take the exam... I couldn't study more, so I finally said, whatever... if i failed again, how cares??? worst to come, I do a PhD...lol... So, I was finally relaxed to take the exam... Well, I took it and today I learned at the oasis that I passed... The score??? I could not care less... I will be more than happy with a 75... Hopefully my CV will help me to compensate a eventually bad score... So, my opinion if you want to pass this exam..and please note, I am not talking about scoring high, just about passing... 1) control yourself... you are your worst enemy... I was having mental blocks etc 2) first aid 3) USMLEWORD is mandatory!!!! Botton of line: never give up... and never loos perspective... you are not better or worst that anyone because you pass or fail a exam... and always have a plan B... so you donīt put too much pressure on yourself... Take care and good luck, Helops

my nbme score was 310 just last week. although I was scoring 60 to 80% in kaplan qbank. During my nbme exam I felt exactly the same way you described. Many questions I know the answer. but I could not recall. I postponed my exam which was supposed to be end of this month. now thinking just like you. I can't study anymore. so will be going to sit for exam within a month. by the way this is the first post I saw from people got low scoring. forum almost look like belongs to people score 99 or above!!!!
