Hi Gezira, grin

just because people keep mentioning the same books a lot and because they are the most expensive ones, it doesnt proove that they are the best for you. The tastes and experiences are different and maybe you ve already noticed during medschool that your friend can get a lot out of xyz-book and you dont.

Maybe Rypins is the best for you. So dont try to do, what everybody does. Now if you dislike Rypins anyways then it s a different story. But you can go to a bookstore and compare the books on the market. Maybe some are written a way more short or have more pictures etc. and maybe you like them and choose to buy them. Get your own opinion before spending a huge amount of money and then be disapointed.

Nevertheless, what many people do is, check the book called First Aid for USMLE Step 1. It recommends/critiques other books and also is a concise note for all Step 1 subjects. Try to find a good source of questions.

Good luck and please let us know, what you ve decided to do.

The information tested on Step 1 is very specific to the med school curriculum in the USA in the first two years. I don't know which Rypin's y ou have, if there are more than 1, but if it is the one I've seen, be careful using that as a primary source--it is much more clinical science oriented and relies more on a specialty division of knowledge than the books I used for Step 1. I'd almost say it looks more like a step 2 review book. First Aid for Step 1, the Kaplan home study notes, and Step Up were what most of my class used. Step 1 really is the basic sciences--biochem, genetics, pharm, anatomy, embryology. Very little of it is clinical.

Good luck.
