Hi, I am an IMG from India. Graduated in 2001 and then came to the US and did my MPH. I have recently started working as a research assistant in the GI dept. I am now planning to take my USMLE and apply for residency. I am hoping to take all the 3 exams by August so that I can apply for the 2008 match (primarily because iI do not want to extend the time gap) Can you please tell me, if this gap is going to be an issue for residency? Do I need to earn CME's for this time period? If so how many and where (or where could I find info on this)? Will my MPH make a difference? If I have LORs from Professors here (from the MPH program ) will that help? Will my research assistanship job count towards clinical experience? I guess in a nut shell I would like to know, whether I will even be considered as an eligible candidate? What should or can I do to increase my chances of being eligible? Would it help to do Observership or shadow attendings? I am from Chicago and would like to pursue residency in Illinois as far as possible, since I have 18 month old baby. I realise this a long mail and lots of questions... but would really appreciate your reply and any advice you have for me... Thankyou, P
