HI prya...I read your post and nice to know that there are so many ppl who really help others..

I have a question ..if u can help me or guide me regarding this..My brother living in states (he is on F1 visa )he advise me to get admission in usa community collage in some kind of associate degree like "radiology " or "sonography" then u will get F1 visa ...it will give u time to study (for steps)and u can earn as well after completion of your course ..then if u get the job on the basis of ur technicion course u can change ur visa from F1..my question is ..is this the right thing to do to get entry in states...

HI!!!

Sorry for the late reply! Well, I have many friends who did MPH on an F1 2-3 years back, cos at that time visas were not being allotted easily, & after finishing MPH , they did Residencies. Yes F1 has an advantage of letting you work & gain an entrance in US for a longer time, but it has following disadvantages,

1. You have to convince the program co-rdinators at the time of residency interviews that why do you plan to change the field(eg. initially MPH/TEchnician course & then Resudency)

2. Visa officers are pretty aware of the fact that after getting F1 you have a liberty to work there, So You have to convince them that YOU HAVE STRONG TIES WITH YOUR OWN COUNTRY & eventually u plan to come back to INDIA. My brother recently got rejected for an F1 visa, cos they were not convinced about his coming back to INDIA. Though he reappllied & finally he got it(thank god!!)

3. Its a long process, I mean first you have to do some studies on an F1 & then u can apply , I mean it takes 1-3 yeras extra. I wont do that!!

4. Right or wrong is subjective, Its upto u to decide! But its not Illegal!

I hope it hepls

Hi.. I'm in final year ( completing in a month) planning to take my steps this year. i had some querries regarding Externships Observerships...
Can these observerships be done only in universities or even unde private practitioners like if you know someone really well.. Please guide me in this regard

Hi sachin,

you are right these observerships can be done under private practioners.

1. Its better than having nothing in hand

2. I helps in giving an explanation for the clinical gaps in resume

3. MAy give you a US LOR(which is better than an IMG LOR)

But Anyday A University Residency program, is a better place to do observership/externship.

But you can do it if you have nothing, meanwhile carry on the search for better university places/community hospitals.

Hi priya,
thanks for the reply.
I just checke a couple of links for the externships. It seems like a tedious process.. Is it better to approach the faculty first or apply?
And since you've gone thru the process, could u just explain stepwise how to go about applying for an externship.

Ok To tell you frankly, I didn't apply for ny externship. I did apply for research & in that case I approached the faculty dircetly! I'm sorry But I wont be able to guide u much in this regard. But Had I been u I wud have approached from both the angles I mean applying with all the paper work + mailing/speaking to the faculty about your interests & intentions.

Hi ppl I thought you might need some help for visa

make 2 files .
Academic file & financial file

Academic file must contain
1. DS156, 157, Passport, Visa interview letter
2. Degree/icc/Clock Hours/or a letter from dean in case you dont have degree
3. CS scheduling permit & confirmation of the date & visa letter sent by ECFMG
4. Step scores & if one of the scores isn't there then a proof that you have taken step1/2
5. CV
6. Any proof showing that u'll be doing research/observership/clerkship
7. Carry a health insurance document .. it helps them get convinced that you are responsible
8. You should be completely aware about your travel plans. in case he/she asks you where will you stay you should confidently answer Friend/Hotel/Relative.. You should also be certain how you will reach your place.. this was important for me. since I had three places to visit Miami/Houston & Galveston So I had to be ready for all of these questions
9. Carry a NOC if you are doing any job or JRship
10. Carry an itinerary of the booked flight(it's free of cost)

If they ask have you purchased flight tickets say no since you want to play safe. Usually they ask girls that wether they'll get married there & settled for that say I have such brilliant scores.. my carreeer is pretty imp. I don't plan to settle unless I'm a post graduate.

They also ask y do you want to go to US... Say I'm keenly interested in Research & US is a kind of a place where prospects for research are really good. First I'll go & see wether I can stay in that kind of a setting or not(this is an explanation for observership.. if you don have that .. sorry)

They might even ask about reservation thing these days.. talk to more ppl who have appeared lately that helps more.

they might even ask what are you future plns say I want to do residency but Want to return to India.. Show them that you are financially strong & want to have your own set up after return. You could tell them that since their Vascular Interventioanl Radiology is advanced I want to learn that & practice in India.. or think of something more innovative like that time I had thought that their genetics study about Rhematology is advanced & I want to do that & explore new possibilities... etc.. etc

Also please visit www.immihelp.com it really helped me

Regarding financial file I'lll post more

Hello priya ,

Thank you for your help .

I am Egyptian . How to make health insurance document ? Does it require contact with US office ?

What is " NOC" for job or "JRship" ?

What is " itinerary of the boked flight " ?

Please answer me ASAP

  #33

Does it require contact with US office ? NO, ANY INSURANCE COMPANY IN EGYPT CAN PROVIDE YOU A TRAVEL INSURANCE.

What is " NOC" for job or "JRship" ? ITS A NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE, ANY EMPLOYER CAN PROVIDE YOU THAT.

What is " itinerary of the boked flight " ? ITINERARY IS THE DETAILS OF FLIGHT & A PROOF THAT YOU HAVE BOOKED A FLIGHT, WHENEVR YOU ARE ABOUT TO PURCHASE A FLIGHT TICKET YOU GET AN ITINERARY i.e. the details of flight, describing time date & duration of flight.

Dear Friends on the Forum ,

I reapplied for the visa today in Cairo, Egypt . I gave the officer a strong financial file and academic file containing the following :

1.Letter from the dean to the consul general indicating that : I am a resident University hospitals , passed the first part of master degree in hepatology and expected to have the second part within one year , doing research work " Effects of Aging on GIT ",

2.Acceptance letter for observership.

3.Scheduling permit , confirmation and visa letter sent by ECFMG for USMLE Step 2 CS .

4.Proof of passing USMLE Step 1 & 2 CK .

5. A copy of my medical diploma .

6.CV.

7.Testimonial from my supervisor professor ( member of the American Association of Gastroenterology).

8. Testimonial from the Dean of my institution .

9.Itinerary of the booked flight .

I am refused again without any apparent reason . I was clear in my suituation and honest . But I do not know how to convince them ?

What to do now ? Is it over ? Is it impossible for a scientific man to enter USA ?

Please help me . I am very disappointed .

Sorry to hear about that. To be honest, with the recent event in UK, people in the US consulate are less willing to grant visa for applicants from middle east. Especially for those in certain age groups. And observership may be not strong enough to be a reason for granting a visa.

May be you should try to get a letter from somebody in the ministerial level or government members.

drbin, for the first question I have already mentioned in my previous posts. Its not mandatory.

for second question, there is no specific format but yes carrying a letter of sponsorship from husband will be helpful in visa. Donot forget to carry a marriage certificate. also see this http://immihelp.com/visas/visitor/sponsordocs.htm...
