Kaplan Qbank USMLE

At last the result is here! I passed with 92:226.
I had prepared for 7 months, but only the last few months were full time and serious work. I did nbme1 one month before the exam and I got somewhere around 82-83. I used qbank and UW and kaplan books.
My weakest areas seem to be heme, resp and anatomy, as for heme and anatomy I sort of knew it but I thought I was good in respiratory system. My best area seems to be nutrition!!!which is strange, I even don't remember questions on that and I definitely had not worked on it before exam.
the rest are all the same performance.
I would be really happy to answer any questions and help if I can.
good luck to you all.

Congrats!! Sweet success!
What did you do for the last 2 days before the exam? Doing q's or just FA?

  #3

One more query khorshid. when you said 82-83 in nbme what was your e digit score?
What did you do specifically to raise your score ? Read more on your strong areas or work on the weak area? Thanks.

  #4

typo error I mean 3 digit score in nbme w/ an 82-83 .

  #5

congratulations for your score i have the same qs what you to raise from 82 to 92 actually its really a good jump & which nbme took waiting for your ans b/c i have only one month left.thanks.

thanks guys, my 3 digit score was somewhere between 440 ad 450(the truth is I don't remember the exact number:-) ).But I was really nervous while doing the test, no concentration at all. in the last month I went over everything again, specially my notes which were really helpfull, and also I repeated the qbank and UW on my weak areas 2 or 3 times. actually the nbme score was a shock to me, I expected much more, so even after the exam I thought I would be 95+...to be honest I am not a FA beleiver, I think there are a lot of points missing there, but then everyone has their own method. so I went over the books, really fast, and my notes...the last few days I had a list of all the stuff I thought I had to go over again, even the Qs...a list like: viruses, antivirals, lysosomal dis, pharm qs, ....I worked mainly on my weak areas, for example in nbme my weakest area was behavioral which I really worked on in the last month, I did behave qs in qbank and UW 2 or 3 times (till you do 90+)and it seems that it had improved a lot, I had a good performance on test...
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but please let me know if there is anything else you want to know.
And again best of luck.

I'm studying from "microbiology ridiculously easy" and im exhausted over the list of treatments they offer for each bacteria. They list several antiobiotics that can treat each infection. I'm confused over which treatment to memorize for each infection. Are we suppose to remember all of the antiobiotics for each infection? I also looked over kaplan micro and it also offers several treatment for some of the infections and some of the treatments are different from the ones listed on "ridiculously easy". Im confused over which treatments to memorize. Can someone plz help me out on how i should approach this. which source should i use for the treatments? how did u do it khorshid? ne recommendations?

  #14

thanx drpkaur and slacker:-)...slacker I did kaplan micro, and I memorized mostly the tx of choice, mainly the first one or two on the list of possibilities, and I didn't face any special problems, indeed in my exam these were not highly tested as far as I remember, good luck.
