Is PA job considered US clinical experience?

  #2

How did you the job? Did you have to take a PA course?

I think you can put it as clinical experience. It's better that than nothing.

From my researches for IMGs even being an ecfmg certified Md you have to go to university in Us to become licenecd PA.they grant you some thing like one year, but still you need atleast one year of studying , and then you have to take state board to start to work , 2 much hassle, but it worth it and that abosutly counts as clinical experience.
what is H&P?
God bless all

Hello

This topic got my attention since I'm working as a PA currently and want to apply for 2008 match, I haven't start with the steps but thinking of doing Step1 CK, SK, and step 2 on the 2007 calendar. I think that my work is gonna count at my future interviews.

I suposed I got lucky in the way I got the job because I was a FM physician's patient and she offered me to work with her as soon she found out I was a IMG, I didn't have to go to any course or any similar to start working with her, all I needed it was a copy of my degree and that was it.

HOpe this helps.. Good luck !

There is no way that you can be a PA without doing two years in US.Before residency anything you have can just allow you to sit for USMLE.If you manage a job in medical field it is just somebody who is kind and really caring and empathetic towards your plight.raised eyebrow

agree with Dermdoc

if a doctor is willing to take a risk of potential malpractice claim, that is up to a doctor, none of the hospitals would let you through the door without a proper license

once I was considering PA degree, all the were willing accept was few credits of science (bio, chem), i still had to do more general college classes in order to be considered for a program, and it's over 2 years (or 4 years) program, depending on the institution.

there is another position of a Medica assistant, and do not confuse it with PA, and in case of Arciniega, id sounds more like MA, not PA

in general, both (PA definitely more than MA) is much better than nothing

MA doesn't pay good (only about $12/hour). PA pays much better, but you have to invest a lot studying and attending classes.

Doctors who have a non-licensed person working as a PA are reaaaally exposing themselves. Not many will do it, fearing possible legal liability.

There is no way you can practice as a Physician's Assistant without a license. When I first came to the US I did not know the difference between these positions like........Phyisicans Assistant, Medical Assistant, Nurses Aide, etc. Where I come from you only have doctors and nurses.

I did apply for a few Phyicians Assistant position but was told that you cannot work here as a PA without a license. Finally ended up working as a Medical Assistant (MA) which is not a bad deal. Some states do require you to be licensed even to work as a MA.

My advice as someone who has been here for a couple of years........consider going to PA school only if you're not successful in getting a residency spot and that too at least after a few attempts at matching.

The PA degree used to be a bachelors program but most programs have upped it to a Masters degree. You may be able to get a few credits on the basis of your prior medical education but it still requires full time enrollement as a student.

As far as which programs train you as a PA...........any university in your area should have a PA program. Just browse through their website, schedule an appt with an advisor and go from there.
