Why a preliminary posit on J1 is considered by some people in this forum as a dead end?
Would you mind helping me in this regard?
What are your chances of getting into a categorical spot after the first prelim year?
Are you obligated to pursue a PGY2 posit only?
Does your J1 status allow you to apply again for the categorical
position next Match?

Hi Abraham,
I know nothing about J1 issue. But I do heard that a lot of people say PGY2 position is very easy to find especially in IM after the prelim year.
