Hello Medicos, I have a query ,the answer to which I need. Please help me with this. Query:Why is a sperm not treated as a foreigncell by the female body? How come antibodies are not produced to destryoy the sperm ? I know that if this would occur, sexual reproduction will hardly be possible.

hmm.. didn't think of that!

well the same question was asked in kaplan, but concerning the fetus. the fetus is an allograft inside the mother, very incompatible. why isn't it rejected?

the answer is based on the fact that the syncitiotrophoblast expresses a decreased number of class I MHC, making it less susceptible to the action of cytotoxic T cells and also there is an increased preduction of PGE2 which inhibits the development of immune response against the fetus
